Highlights of the Day In one of Latvia's four regions—the Zemgale region situated in southern Latvia—the landscape stands out with extended cultivated fields. Here in summer, you have the highest chances to spot majestic storks that Latvians hold sacred. Zemgale is notable for its numerous remarkable palaces and manors, with Jelgava Palace and Rundāle Palace being the most renowned.
Bauska is located just under an hour’s drive from Riga and is easily accessible to both local travelers and tourists. It is a city where the Mūsa and Mēmele rivers meet to form the Lielupe, and where the breath of the Middle Ages and the serene nature of Zemgale can still be felt. This place is enchanting, with a peaceful charm, yet it also offers a variety of adventures – from historical sites to fine flavors and romantic walks.
Rundale Palace was once the summer residence of Ernst Johann von Biron, the Duke of Courland. It was built according to the design of the Italian architect Francesco Rastrelli, best known for the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. The Palace has been completely restored. Nowadays, Rundale Palace is Latvia's most notable 18th-century Baroque and Rococo architectural monument. This impressive Palace and its gardens are now a museum, one of the major tourist destinations in the entire country.
Jūrmala, a city and resort in Latvia, is renowned for its natural resources, including healing mud, mineral waters, and pine forests.
The almost 25 km long white sand beach, well-maintained for everyone's enjoyment, will allow you to find an undisturbed spot to sunbathe and swim in the sea. Jurmala Resort hotels offer a wide range of spa services, making them an ideal place to combine leisurely relaxation with healthcare.
